Well, the Golden Globe Nominations have just arrived, and what we have here is quite an impressive selection of nominations, especially for all those I was lucky enough to have seen.
In the movie department, Netflix, as a streaming service, has come quite a long way with its development in artistic quality; The Irishman, Marriage Story, AND The Two Popes alone got nominations for Best Motion Picture - Drama. Who knows how far other streaming networks like Hulu or Amazon Prime have to go before they reach the level of cinematic quality like Netflix has?
Such movies I have seen, like Toy Story 4, How to Train Your Dragon 3, Frozen II, and especially RocketMan, Joker and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood, got recognitions where they were most deserving, and I’m happy to seem them get credit where credit’s due.
In the TV department, I was tickled to see The Kominsky Method get a nomination for Best TV Series - Comedy, as I was to see Michael Douglas and Alan Arkin, both from this show, as well as Kit Harrington from Game of Thrones, Billy Porter from Pose, and Natasha Lyonne from Russian Doll all get nominations in the acting categories.
There were only two thing about these nominations that left me aghast. One was, Aaron Paul is nowhere to be seen for his work in El Camino: A Breaking Bad Movie. And two, the live-action Lion King (which, as you might recall, is just pitiful compared to the original Lion King) got a nomination for Best Animated Feature Film.
That. Is just. Sad.
PS
I've been looking forward to seeing The Irishman and 1917 even before the nominations came, but now they make me REALLY want to see them. :)
